 B.B. Olive is a graduate of Duke University School of
Engineering (B.S.E.E., Honors) and of St. John's
University School of Law (J.D.). Mr. Olive established
the first patent law firm serving the Research Triangle
Park area when he opened the doors of our firm in
Durham, North Carolina in 1957. In addition to his
practice as an attorney, he taught as an adjunct
professor at Duke University’s School of Engineering,
founded and was the first chair of the North Carolina
Bar Association’s Patent, Trademark and Copyright Law
committee, and is active in civic affairs, particularly
relating to energy and the environment. Mr. Olive is the
recipient, among other awards, of the North Carolina
Order of the Long Leaf Pine (the highest civilian honor
that can be granted by the State); the Distinguished
Alumnus Award of Duke University School of Engineering;
and the Charles F. Korstian Award (for his environmental
work in support of Duke Forest). Mr. Olive is admitted
to practice in North Carolina, the Federal courts
located in North Carolina, and the United States Supreme
Court as well as before the U.S. Patent Office.
