The history of Olive & Olive dates back to 1957,
when B. B. Olive became the first patent attorney to
establish a private practice in what now is referred to
as the Research Triangle Park area of North Carolina. He
was joined in 1979 by his daughter, Susan Freya Olive,
who had just completed a two-year term as Special
Counsel for the State of North Carolina and who became
the first female to enter the private practice of
intellectual property law in North Carolina. Since that
time, we have grown and developed to keep pace with
increasingly sophisticated local, national and
international markets, maintaining a tradition of
excellence as well as diversity that is unique among
North Carolina intellectual property firms.
Now celebrating our 50th anniversary, we are
well-known and respected for our legal acumen, with
articles reporting our success appearing not only in the
United States but overseas. We treasure that success,
and what it means for our clients. We recognize that
without our clients, our community, and our fellow
lawyers, Olive & Olive could not enjoy these
successes. Thus, we work hard to share our knowledge in
ways that will benefit our clients and others.
We also give back to our community. Each year our
firm helps impoverished clients through Volunteer
Lawyers for the Arts and the North Carolina Legal Aid
program. In addition, we select and participate in at
least one, and typically several, service projects. Our
team of attorneys, paralegals, and other professionals has
headed programs to raise money for hurricane relief,
staffed monthly "bread runs" for the local
soup kitchen, and staffed voter education programs for
children. We recently were honored by the Share Your
Christmas Program for our work with that organization in
2005. Individuals within the firm participate in a wide
variety of community efforts relating to the
environment, arts, conservation and energy, politics and
religion.
